Summer Rose Butterfly Bush, Buddleia davidii ‘Summer Rose’, is sometimes called the “Summer Lilac” Vigorous, yet compact habit. Large, fragrant mauve-rose flower spikes from July to Sept. Tiny individual mauve-rose flowers are produced in profusion in long, dense trusses. It is more compactly leafed than most Butterfly Bush varieties. In northern areas it dies back in winter, so trim to 6-10″ in spring. It is crown hardy in zone 5, a good cut flower, and attracts butterflies. Butterfly bushes prefer full sun and must receive eight or more hours of sun a day to thrive and get the best blooms. Cut faded flowers off of bush regularly to keep it blooming throughout the summer. It is easily maintained at four to six feet in height, and five feet wide, if it is hard-pruned annually. Summer Rose does not require much watering once it is established.
